Line & Shape
My favorite photo in this project is the baseball picture taken at Fenway Park in Boston. To take this photo i chose to get close to the ball and focus on it. I like the shadow the ball created o the dugout, and how the background blurred once i put the ball into focus. Baseball is my favorite sport, and i am frequently at Fenway, so this composition shows something about me.
Pattern & Texture
Pattern & Texture Written Reflection
I believe my best photo in this unit is the photo of the tractor wheel and dirt. I took this while on a hay ride and thought the way the sun was hitting the wheel was a perfect opportunity for a photo! I didn't zoom for the photo because I thought the frame was at a perfect distance. Behind on the hay ride, I was elevated slightly above the wheel, therefore you are able to see the top of the wheel, as well as the ground. This is a horizontal photograph, I took it this way because the dirt against the wheel makes the wheel stand out much more. This picture is a good example of texture because of the tractor marks in the dirt, as well as the rocks. This image is well exposed. I was able to see this once I converted the photo to black and white and the levels were pretty much where they should have been. Out of my Pattern & Texture unit photos, I think this is my best photo in terms of exposure.

Motion
Written Reflection: My favorite photo from "motion" is the one of Steve jumping over Jordan. I like how this image seems like it's frozen in time. To accomplish this, i set the shutter speed to 1/1000. The ISO was set to 640 and the white balance had been set to Cloudy.
Painting with Light.
Written Reflection: My favorite photo from this selection is the photo of Eric where I am creating a target behind him and he is swirling a blue light in front of him. To accomplish this, we used an 8 second shutter speed and a red christmas light string, as well as a string of blue christmas lights. This creates a focal point of Eric because of the "target" like figure behind him. I like the angle of the camera because you are able to see the whole composition, rather than the head on angle where you'd miss his body.
Aperture.
For these pictures, i set my f-stop to 3.5-5.6. The ISO was set to 1600 in order to get nice exposure under the light.
The black and white picture was taken with an f-stop of 3.5-5.6. The ISO was set to 1000.

Fog.
I chose to shoot Joe because the contrast of him with the fog looked interesting.
I photographed many things either head on because of the contrast of the fog or closer to an object with that in focus because oit showed how foggy it truly was. I used depth of field in the pictures of the posts to make it look like a maze.

Portfolio.
This photo shows good use of lines, contrast, focus and exposure. One of my favorite aspects of this photo is that the building isn't vertical, but rather on an angle. I like the white balance in this photo because there isn't too much of white, gray or black. The contrast of the sky and the building, as well as the windows against the white building is a compelling aspect of the photo because it draws your attention to the pattern of the windows and leads your eye through the composition. This photo is interesting due to the point of view. I actually took this when on a Duck Tour through Boston, therefore i had to tilt my camera through the window of the car, so it came out on an angle. I think this came out better than it would have if it was straight.
The branches of the trees create a circle for the sun to shine through, creating an interesting shape. The tree trunks, as well as the branches become the leading lines of the composition leading your eyes toward the focal point, the sun. The exposure of the photo is very interesting because everything is perfectly in focus, when shooting into the sun this is a difficult thing to accomplish. I like the lighting of this photo because it creates the sense that the sun shines perfectly through the branches. This photo creates a sense of serenity. When I look at this composition the branches symbolize struggles in life and the sun symbolizes getting through them. Although things get in your way and seem hard, there is always a positive, brighter side.
When looking at this photo, the ball is the first thing you notice in the foreground. This is what i wanted to accomplish in this photo because I love baseball and going to the Red Sox. I like the way that the red seems on the baseball bring out the red in the stadium, as well as the Budweiser sign in the background. The colors lead your eye through the photo. The shallow depth of field is interesting in this photo because it creates a focal point of the ball. This picture has a lot of meaning to me because it represents a family tradition of going to the Red Sox.
The way that Joe is jumping in the picture creates motion and a sense of fear because he is jumping over Jordan. She doesn't know how high up he actually is so its interesting to look at her facial expression. I love the sense of freedom in this photo because of the jumping. I also like the lines in the background because Joe folows the lines on the railing.
This is one of my favorite pictures because i love the sun glaring on the tire and creating an angelic effect. I like the country feel of this photo because of the dirt and rocks. The contrast in this photo is also really intresting
I love the leading lines in this photo and how it leads to Joe in a somewhat zombie position. This creates a sense of mystery because of how blurry he is due to the fog. I like how you can barely see him.
Expressive Lighting
My favorite photo is the one of Emily with front lighting and her hair blowing in the wind. I love the shadows and soft lighting in this photo and the feel this gives off. Her hair looks so free and interesting in this photo. Her hair almost forms to her body and creates lines. One of my favorite things about this is how the right side of her face is a shadow because of her hair. This composition has a good use of range between the blacks and whites. When taking this photo we had already done the interesting light angles and the light just happened to be placed at a perfect angle in front of her. Once i realized how beautiful this looks, Miss Jacobs and I began to wave the poster boards at her to create the windblown hair effect. The lights being off in the hallway helped this a lot because it made it easier to focus on her face and create a softer feel.
Double Exposure
Photo Essay
My photo essay is about the annual Patriot's Day Red Sox game that my family and I go to. Fenway is my favorite place to go, so I thought it was a great way to represent me, as well as my April vacation. I took these photos with my Iphone 6s camera.
